SENATOR PACHECO JOINS ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS FOR RELEASE OF
NEW
CLIMATE REPORT
Boston
,
MA
—State Senator Marc R.
Pacheco (D-Taunton) joined top environmental leaders and policymakers
today for the release of a new climate change report published by leading
environmental groups.
The new study indicates that as global warming
emissions increase in Massachusetts New England is not on track to meet
the 2010 reduction targets established by the
New England
governors seven years ago.
The report, “Falling Behind: New England Must Act Now to Reduce Global
Warming Pollution,” indicates that emissions in Massachusetts increased
by 2 percent between 2001 and 2005 and electricity consumption in
Massachusetts increased 9 percent, faster than in any other state.
Senator Pacheco addressed environmental leaders and top policymakers
today, highlighting the importance of establishing into law far-reaching
greenhouse gas reductions.
“New England is the seventh largest emitter of greenhouse gases in
the world, and here in Massachusetts we need to act now to become part of
the solution,” said Senator Pacheco, chairman of the Senate Committee on
Global Warming and Climate Change. “Senate approval of the Global
Warming Solutions Act is a good first step toward positioning
Massachusetts
as a leader in global warming solutions, but we must continue our efforts.
The longer we wait, the larger the problem becomes.”
